The explosion occurred around 2:15 AM on September 15, while the Damone family was asleep in their house located near the central bus station.

According to local police, the family had just finished dinner and was preparing to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. They had placed a statue of Lord Ganesh in their home before going to bed. The explosion was described as a loud bang that startled nearby residents, who rushed to the scene to find the house engulfed in flames.

The deceased were identified as Bharati Damone (50), Sharada Damone (45), Ganga Damone (25), and Priya Damone (24). The two survivors, Gajanan Damone (65) and Roshan Damone (21), sustained severe injuries, with reports indicating that they suffered burns covering approximately 60% of their bodies. They were quickly transported to a hospital for emergency treatment.

The explosion also caused significant damage to the house, which lacked sturdy concrete walls, resulting in extensive destruction and loss of property. A police officer stated, "It is evident that the refrigerator exploded, but we are investigating the cause. We are looking into whether it was due to an electrical fault or another fire incident. The Ganesh statue was decorated with lights, and we suspect there may have been an electrical short circuit."
