On August 2, a significant gas explosion occurred in a house located in An Phu Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, resulting in serious injuries to a grandmother and her grandson. The 73-year-old woman suffered burns covering 85% of her body, while her 30-year-old grandson sustained burns on approximately 40% of his body.

The explosion, which took place around 4 AM, was so powerful that it caused the roof of the house to be blown off and a portion of the walls to collapse. Debris was scattered across the area, damaging two adjacent homes as well.

According to a representative from Military Hospital 175, both victims were admitted to the hospital about an hour after the explosion. They were in a state of panic and had extensive burns. Medical staff provided immediate care, including fluid replacement and pain management, and their conditions were stabilized.

The elderly woman remains in critical condition, facing a high risk of infection and complications due to the extent of her injuries. Meanwhile, her grandson's condition is currently stable, and he is under continuous observation and treatment.

Initial investigations revealed that the explosion was caused by a gas leak from the household's gas cylinder. The gas accumulated in the home, and when the homeowner turned on a water pump, a spark ignited the gas, leading to the explosion.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers associated with gas appliances and the importance of regular maintenance to prevent such accidents.
