A devastating accident occurred on July 11, when a canoe carrying 32 Indian tourists capsized near Phu Quoc, resulting in the tragic deaths of 15 individuals. The vessel, identified as AG-26751 and operated by Captain Nguyen Hong Hai, was navigating from Hon May Rut Ngoai to An Thoi port when it encountered severe weather conditions, including strong winds and high waves.

According to Colonel Quang Quoc Huy, Deputy Head of the An Giang Provincial Police Department, initial investigations revealed that the captain's negligence was a contributing factor to the disaster. Hai, 57, has since been detained for violating regulations regarding the operation of watercraft, as stated in Article 272 of the Penal Code.

The incident unfolded around 1 PM, when the canoe capsized, throwing all passengers and crew members into the sea. Immediate rescue efforts were launched by nearby tourist boats, border guards, police, military personnel, and local residents. Fortunately, 21 individuals were rescued, but 15 Indian tourists, comprising 13 men and 2 women, lost their lives.

Among the survivors, one individual was critically injured and required urgent medical attention for respiratory failure due to drowning, multiple traumatic injuries, cerebral hemorrhage, and acute myocardial infarction. A medical team from Cho Ray Hospital was dispatched to Phu Quoc to perform emergency procedures, including the reopening of coronary arteries and the placement of a temporary pacemaker, before transferring the patient to Ho Chi Minh City for further treatment. The patient has since recovered and returned to India accompanied by a doctor.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and assess the responsibilities of all individuals and organizations involved in this tragic event.
