Thai Nguyen Accelerates Growth Objectives for 2026

Thai Nguyen province is rapidly advancing its growth objectives for 2026, aiming for a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) increase of 11% or more. The local government is prioritizing the resolution of obstacles in project implementation to mobilize resources effectively for economic and social development.

Investment as a Growth Driver

Investment is expected to continue driving growth in Thai Nguyen this year, with numerous large-scale projects underway. The provincial authorities are enhancing their efforts to attract businesses and develop production capabilities. They are also working to eliminate bottlenecks in project execution, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently.

Focus on Industrial Development

In the second half of 2026, Thai Nguyen is set to implement various synchronized solutions to achieve its growth targets. The province aims to boost industrial processing and manufacturing, high-tech industries, and support industries. The focus is also on improving the operational efficiency of enterprises, particularly those with foreign direct investment (FDI), while promoting digital transformation and innovation to enhance labor productivity.

Positive Early Results

The foundation for growth in the latter half of the year is built on the positive results from the first half. The industrial production index (IIP) rose by 19.86% compared to the same period last year, with the processing and manufacturing sectors growing by 20.07%. Key industrial products, such as tablets, cameras, and automotive parts, have maintained strong growth rates.

Export and Revenue Growth

Trade activities have also seen an upswing, with total export turnover estimated at $17.6 billion, marking a 13.9% increase year-on-year. The provincial budget revenue exceeded 14.8 trillion VND, up 10.1% compared to the previous year. The agriculture, forestry, and fishery sectors grew by 4.11%, contributing to the stability of the rural economy and laying the groundwork for sustainable development.

Investment Attraction

Thai Nguyen remains an attractive destination for both domestic and foreign investors. In the first half of the year, the province approved 19 new projects with a total investment of over 17.4 trillion VND and issued investment certificates for 11 projects worth more than 1.75 trillion VND. Notably, FDI capital increased to over $8 billion, with new projects registered at over $5.7 billion.

Challenges Ahead

Despite these positive developments, challenges remain. Issues related to land compensation, site clearance, and infrastructure connectivity continue to hinder project implementation. The provincial authorities are urged to expedite these processes to facilitate timely project execution.

With the results achieved in the first half of the year and a commitment to overcoming investment and infrastructure challenges, Thai Nguyen is poised to reach its ambitious GRDP growth target for 2026, setting the stage for sustainable growth in the years to come.
