The Vietnamese government has announced plans for Ninh Binh province to become a centrally governed city by the year 2030. This initiative was highlighted during a meeting led by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang, who emphasized the importance of preparing a comprehensive proposal that showcases the province's unique millennium heritage urban characteristics.

During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister instructed local leaders to review the growth scenarios for the last six months of 2026, ensuring that specific targets and tasks are assigned to various sectors and localities. He also stressed the need for accountability among provincial leaders, who will oversee different areas and fields.

To achieve the goal of becoming a centrally governed city, Ninh Binh must enhance its economic growth alongside public investment and key projects. The province aims to achieve a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth rate of 11% or more by 2026. This requires the local government to closely monitor the progress of ongoing projects and proactively address any challenges faced by businesses and initiatives.

Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister called for the effective implementation of the Ninh Binh provincial planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision extending to 2050. This includes prioritizing the development of strategic infrastructure and vital transport links that connect urban centers with major tourism areas, as well as regional and inter-regional connections.

Ninh Binh is also encouraged to invest in high-speed rail, deep-water ports linked to coastal urban areas, and tourism ports. The province is tasked with expanding its digital infrastructure and enhancing connections to its significant cultural heritage sites.
