A 29-year-old man, identified as Duong Dai Long, has been taken into custody in Dong Nai for allegedly abusing his partner's daughter, who is just 11 years old. The authorities have charged him with intentional injury and child abuse following multiple reports of physical violence against the girl.
Long, originally from Ho Chi Minh City, has been living with his partner and her daughter in Binh Phuoc Ward for several years. It is reported that he frequently assaulted the girl, believing she was underperforming academically. The abuse included pulling her ears and slapping her face, which resulted in visible injuries such as a bleeding nose.
On the evening of July 29, Long forced the girl to kneel in their bedroom and struck her on the legs and buttocks with a wooden stick approximately 60 cm long. He reportedly made her continue kneeling until around 1 AM the following day before allowing her to sleep. During this time, the girl managed to borrow a phone and called her uncle for help while Long was outside.
After receiving the call, her relatives took her to the police to report the abuse. During the investigation, Long admitted to his actions, and it was revealed that the girl's mother had witnessed the abuse but did not intervene. Security cameras recorded the incidents, providing further evidence of the abuse.
This case has raised significant concerns regarding child protection and the responsibilities of guardians in preventing such incidents.
