Singer Chi Dân, whose real name is Nguyễn Trung Hiếu, and model Andrea Aybar, also known as An Tây, are scheduled to stand trial in a high-profile drug case involving 227 defendants, including four flight attendants from Vietnam Airlines. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court has announced that the trial will take place from August 17 to September 12, addressing serious charges such as illegal transportation and trade of narcotics, organization of illegal drug use, and possession of illegal substances.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of well-known figures in the entertainment industry. Chi Dân and his brother, Nguyễn Trung Tín, along with Nguyễn Đỗ Trúc Phương, known as "the charitable fairy," face charges related to the organization of illegal drug use. Meanwhile, Andrea Aybar, a Spanish national, is accused of both organizing illegal drug use and possessing illegal substances.

The group is believed to have sourced drugs from a trafficking network led by Hoàng Sỹ Thắng, who is currently under investigation. The authorities uncovered the operation on March 16, 2023, when customs officials at Tan Son Nhat Airport discovered over 8 kilograms of ecstasy and more than 3 kilograms of ketamine hidden in the luggage of the flight attendants after noticing suspicious signs during a routine check.

As the investigation expanded, the Ho Chi Minh City Police, in collaboration with various forces, established a case code VN10 to dismantle the entire drug trafficking network. The investigation revealed that the network had a staggering transaction value of nearly 29 trillion VND, operating through almost 500 branches across 34 provinces and cities. Authorities have seized nearly 600 kilograms of drugs, along with firearms and grenades, highlighting the organized nature of the operation.

The trial will be conducted publicly with a hybrid format, combining in-person and online proceedings. The presiding judge, Vũ Thanh Lâm, will oversee the trial, which will feature participation from six prosecutors and over 120 defense attorneys representing the defendants. This case is considered particularly serious due to its scale and the sophisticated methods employed by the accused.
