The Vietnamese government has recently issued Decree No. 232/2026/ND-CP, which outlines the job positions for public officials effective from July 1, 2026. This decree categorizes job positions within public service units into distinct groups, ensuring a more organized framework for public employment.

According to the decree, the job positions for public officials will be classified into three main categories:

• Management Positions: These include roles that oversee the administration and strategic direction of public service units.
• Specialized and Professional Positions: This category encompasses roles that require specific expertise and skills related to the core functions of the unit.
• Support Positions: These roles assist in the operational and administrative functions of the unit.

The classification is designed to ensure that each job position corresponds to the specific functions and responsibilities of the unit. The government emphasizes that no new job positions should be created outside the established framework, and existing job titles should remain unchanged.

In cases where a job position is listed under both specialized and support categories, the relevant authority will determine which category to apply based on criteria such as the position's relevance to the unit's primary tasks and the nature of the output produced.

This new regulation aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of public service by clearly defining roles and responsibilities, thus improving overall governance in Vietnam.
