New Allowances for Military Leaders in Vietnam Effective July 1

As of July 1, 2026, the base salary in Vietnam will be set at 2.53 million VND per month, an increase from the previous 2.34 million VND. This change, announced by the Ministry of National Defense, also results in a corresponding rise in allowances for various leadership positions within the Vietnam People's Army.

The new allowance structure is outlined in Circular No. 74/2026/TT-BQP, which details the implementation of the new base salary and the adjustments to allowances for military personnel. The allowances for military leaders will now reflect the new base salary, providing increased financial support to those in key positions.

Details of the New Allowances

Under the updated regulations, the Minister of National Defense will receive an allowance of 3.795 million VND per month, equivalent to a coefficient of 1.50. The Chief of the General Staff and the Chairman of the General Political Department will receive 3.542 million VND per month (coefficient of 1.40).

Other leadership roles such as the heads of military regions and branches will receive allowances of 3.162 million VND (coefficient of 1.25). Commanders of military units will receive 2.783 million VND, while deputy commanders will receive 2.53 million VND.

Further down the hierarchy, division commanders will receive 2.277 million VND, brigade commanders 2.024 million VND, regiment commanders 1.771 million VND, and deputy regiment commanders 1.518 million VND. Battalion commanders will have an allowance of 1.265 million VND, while their deputies will receive 1.012 million VND.

Additionally, company commanders will receive 759,000 VND, deputy company commanders 632,500 VND, and platoon leaders 506,000 VND per month.

The Ministry of National Defense emphasizes that the allowances for other leadership positions will be determined based on the principles outlined in the amended Military Officer Law of 2024 and existing regulations from the government and the Ministry.
