Huu Lien Special-use Forest, Lang Son - The hidden beauties

"Because our country is still strange, going abroad is unnecessary." Those are the things that young Vietnamese often share. Indeed, this S-shaped strip still has many exciting lands that few people set foot on. Places with beautiful scenes shake people's hearts but pick up the phone, and there are stunning photos to bring back. And today, following travel vlogger De Men Du Ky, readers will be immersed in nature at Huu Lien's special-use forest - where there is an extraordinary waterfall and a lake halfway up the mountain known as Ha Long Bay of Lang Son.
The first starting point in today's journey of De Men is Nong Dung Lake. Nong Dung Lake is between the overlapping limestone mountains in Huu Lien commune, Huu Lung district, Lang Son province. The entire area of Huu Lien commune is located in the Huu Lien Nature Reserve, with an area of about 8,300 hectares, stretching across the districts of Huu Lung, Chi Lang, and Van Quan.

Nong Dung Lake is a collection of 4 small lakes that people used to call nongs, including Nong Xa, Nong Loi, Nong Lang, and Nong Dung. Nong Dung is the largest lake, so people later called this cluster Nong Dung Lake. Due to topographical conditions, the water in Nong Dung Lake is green all year round. The larger the water, the greener the lake's surface.
This lake is about 200 meters from provincial Road 243, connecting Yen Thinh commune, Huu Lung district, to Tran Yen commune, Bac Son district. The roads are relatively easy to go and convenient for visitors to experience. You can rent a human-crewed bamboo boat at the lakeside or go kayaking. De Men has chosen to travel by bamboo boat than can go to the other shore to explore the following places.

After visiting Nong Dung Lake, you can ask the boatmen to dock on the other side of the mountain to trek up to Mo Ang Lake. The travel distance is close, it only takes about 20 minutes, but the road is still very dense. You will have two ways to go: the first is to go through the Yen Thinh commune area, then go through Khe Dau waterfall and Mo Ang Lake. However, that route is more extended than moving to the top of the mountain along the route of Nong Dung Lake.

Because it is located in a high place surrounded by mountains, visitors will feel lost in a strange place with clear blue water and beautiful quiet space when coming to Mo Ang Lake.

After exploring Mo Ang Lake, De Men moved to Khe Dau waterfall. This waterfall is exceptional because human hands created it. In the past, the Huu Lien area was often flooded in the rainy season because the mountains and people surrounding it had to find a way to drain the water by creating a flow from Mo Ang Lake to Yen Thinh. And from there, Khe Dau Waterfall was born.
What is even more remarkable is that there are many stone crabs in the Khe Dau waterfall. You can experience catching crabs and making grilled salted or grilled crab right at the waterfall.
In addition, Nong Dung Lake is also located close to the Dong Lam steppe - a beautiful and famous destination of Lang Son. Therefore, you can combine exploring these two tourist destinations simultaneously. In the dry season, the river in Dong Lam dries up. In the rainy season, after the rains, the steppe becomes more beautiful than ever when the water rises to form small winding rivers. The water here has a clear jade green color, creating a charming landscape. Many visitors have chosen to camp, play, and fly kites here to escape the noisy and dusty city.

Huu Lien's beauty cannot be described in words. Therefore, it is hoped that the experiences of De Men will make your actual trip soon more exciting and memorable.
