Binh Chau hot spring: A perfect place to refresh
NDO – Binh Chau - Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve is a natural treasure along the coastal line of Ba Ria – Vung Tay
Located approximately 140km from Hanoi city, Bo Am Hot Spring (also known as Mo Am Hot Spring) is a beautiful natural hot spring site nestled in Bo Am commune, Chieng Yen district, Van Ho district, Son La province. With water temperatures ranging from 35-40 degrees Celsius, the hot spring has been developed into a tourism destination by the local cooperative. Its secluded natural scenery and affordable prices make it an ideal location for families to relax and unwind near the hustle and bustle of Hanoi.
"In 2023, a geological team from the central government came to survey the area. They measured the water temperature and pH levels, concluding that the water is healthy with moderate pH and not too high in sulphur content. In winter, when it gets colder, the hot spring water is even warmer, which locals really enjoy soaking in for relaxation and health benefits," said Mr. Khuong, head of the local cooperative.
The mineral-rich hot water flows directly from rock fissures, divided into 3 layers by temperature. The uppermost layer is warmest, gradually cooling in the levels below. The lowest layer has cooler but still mild temperatures, suitable for bathing and swimming.
From Hanoi, the hot spring can be reached in around 3.5 hours by taking the Thang Long Expressway - Hanoi - Hoa Binh Expressway - National Road 6, combined with an overnight stay in the scenic town of Mai Chau or other destinations in Hoa Binh province on weekends for a more leisurely trip.
It's about 80km from Hoa Binh city, taking around 2 hours on National Road 6.
From Moc Chau town, it's only around 25km away or a 40 minute drive.
Surrounding the hot spring are several homestays run by friendly local families, providing comfortable rooms with mountain views. Rates are affordable. Traditional local foods like glutinous rice, grilled chicken and herbal soups are delicious. From the homestays, it's a short walk of a few hundred meters to the hot spring itself. Visitors can fully experience rural village life. Some recommended homestays:

Northeasters and winter colds see it especially packed with people seeking the warmer waters. Locals hope future investments can better develop tourism here, boosting local livelihoods.
