CINCINNATI — A dramatic incident occurred on Sunday when a semi-truck crashed through a barrier wall on the Martin Luther King Drive overpass, which spans Interstate 71 in Avondale. The crash happened around 5 p.m. and resulted in the truck being left precariously dangling over the edge.
First responders from the Cincinnati Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene and successfully rescued two people from the truck using harnesses. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) released footage capturing the moment the semi-truck entered the exit ramp and collided with the barrier wall. This video, along with aerial footage of the aftermath, provides a stark view of the crash's severity.
At the time of the accident, the truck was carrying approximately 200 gallons of fuel, much of which spilled onto the roadway below after the vehicle's gas tank ruptured. This created additional hazards for emergency responders and required extensive cleanup efforts.
As of Monday morning, only one eastbound lane of MLK Drive remained closed due to the incident. Authorities are continuing to assess the situation and ensure the area is safe for motorists.
