Northern Vietnam is bracing for another round of heavy rainfall, with forecasts indicating that the region will experience significant precipitation from the night of August 26 through August 27. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has reported that many areas will see moderate to heavy rain, raising concerns about flash floods and landslides, particularly in mountainous regions.

During this period, rainfall amounts are expected to range from 20 to 40mm, with localized areas potentially receiving over 80mm. In the lowland areas of Northern Vietnam and Thanh Hoa, scattered rain and thunderstorms are anticipated, with rainfall between 10 to 30mm, and some areas may see heavy rain exceeding 60mm.

The meteorological agency has issued warnings that thunderstorms could bring strong winds, hail, and lightning, which may lead to downed trees, damaged homes, and disrupted infrastructure. Agricultural activities could also be adversely affected by these weather conditions.

As of the evening of August 26, river levels in the Cau and Thuong rivers (Bac Ninh) were being monitored closely. The water level at the Thuong River station in Phu Lang Thuong was recorded at 6.53m, which is 0.23m above the third alarm level. Meanwhile, the Cau River at the Dap Cau station was at 5.18m, slightly below the second alarm level by 0.12m.

Forecasts indicate that within the next 12 hours, water levels in the lower Thuong River will continue to drop below the third alarm level, while the lower Cau River will also decrease and remain below the second alarm level. Over the next 12 to 24 hours, water levels in the lower Thuong River will continue to decline but remain above the second alarm level, and the lower Cau River is expected to fall to the first alarm level.

Looking ahead to August 27, the weather across the country will vary. In Hanoi, there will be clouds with occasional rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 26 to 33 degrees Celsius. The northwest region will see similar conditions with scattered rain and thunderstorms, while the northeast will experience rain, particularly in mountainous areas.

In Thanh Hoa to Hue, the weather will be partly cloudy with some rain in the evening and night, while daytime temperatures may rise significantly in southern parts. The Central Highlands and southern regions will also see scattered rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 34 degrees Celsius.
