Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northern Vietnam Today

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Northern Vietnam will see scattered showers and thunderstorms today, August 14. The rainfall is expected to be particularly heavy in some areas, with totals exceeding 80mm.

As of this morning, regions including the Northwest, Cao Bang, and parts of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An have already recorded significant rainfall. For instance, the Đức Long station in Cao Bang reported 65.2mm, while Cửa Cạn in An Giang saw 56.6mm.

Throughout the day and night, the rainfall in Northern Vietnam is expected to range from 10 to 30mm, with localized areas potentially experiencing more than 70mm. Meanwhile, in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, the Central Highlands, and Southern Vietnam, scattered showers and thunderstorms are anticipated, with rainfall amounts of 15 to 30mm, and some areas could see over 80mm.

With the expected thunderstorms, there is a risk of strong winds, lightning, hail, and flash floods, which could impact agricultural production and cause damage to trees, homes, and transportation infrastructure. The risk level for natural disasters due to these storms is classified as level 1.

Residents in affected areas are advised to take precautions against potential flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying regions and near rivers and streams.
