The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms and heavy rain across the northern mountainous regions and Quang Ninh tonight. The forecast indicates that rainfall will be concentrated in the evening hours, with some areas experiencing rainfall exceeding 70mm.

As of the morning of July 20, 2026, areas in the northern mountainous regions and Quang Ninh have already recorded significant rainfall. For instance, monitoring stations reported over 50mm of rain, with Chế Tạo 1 in Lao Cai recording 59.6mm, Nậm Hàng 2 in Lai Chau at 52.6mm, and Ngọc Chiến in Son La at 51.8mm.

Tonight, scattered thunderstorms are expected across the northern mountainous region, with rainfall amounts ranging from 10 to 30mm. However, localized areas may see heavy rain exceeding 70mm. The thunderstorms may also bring strong winds, lightning, hail, and potential tornadoes, with a risk level categorized as level 1 for natural disasters.

This severe weather could adversely affect agricultural production, causing damage to crops, uprooting trees, and damaging homes and infrastructure. Additionally, heavy localized rainfall may lead to flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas.
