Unitree has recently unveiled its latest humanoid robot, dubbed Superman, which boasts remarkable capabilities, including the ability to jump 2 meters high and run faster than Usain Bolt. The robot can achieve a maximum speed of 12.66 m/s (approximately 45.6 km/h), surpassing the current world record for the 100-meter sprint held by Usain Bolt, who reached 12.2 m/s in 2009.
Announced on August 18, the Superman robot features legs measuring 0.85 meters in length, enabling it to leap and sprint beyond the limits of human performance. However, these impressive statistics have yet to be verified by a third party, and Unitree has not disclosed detailed specifications or the technology behind the robot, apart from a video that has garnered over a million views on social media.
Unitree stated that the Superman robot is still in the development phase, with significant room for improvement in the coming months. The company aims to enhance its capabilities further, indicating that this prototype is just the beginning of what could be achieved in humanoid robotics.
The introduction of the Superman robot comes at a pivotal time for Unitree, which recently went public on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. This move is expected to bolster the company's presence in the competitive robotics market. Additionally, the World Robot Conference 2026 is set to take place from August 19 to 23 in Beijing, where technology experts from around the globe will discuss advancements in humanoid robotics.
Following the conference, the second World Humanoid Robot Championship will kick off on August 22, an event often referred to as the Olympic Games for robots. Last year, Unitree excelled at this championship, winning four gold medals in various categories, including the 400-meter and 1,500-meter races, as well as the 100-meter hurdles and the 4x100-meter relay.
According to reports, Superman could be a key asset for Unitree in securing even more victories at upcoming competitions. Established in 2016 and headquartered in Hangzhou, Unitree is currently the second-largest producer of humanoid robots globally, with a market share of 31% and 5,900 robots produced in the first half of 2026. Overall, Chinese companies dominate the humanoid robot market, accounting for over 97% of global production.
