A Vietnam Airlines flight, designated VN34, was forced to make an emergency landing in Munich on August 15 due to a technical malfunction. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-9, took off from Munich en route to Hanoi but encountered issues shortly after departure.

According to representatives from Vietnam Airlines, the flight crew followed established protocols and successfully landed back at Munich Airport. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members were unharmed during the incident. Upon landing, passengers were safely escorted to the terminal.

Vietnam Airlines is currently collaborating with authorities and relevant agencies to determine the specific cause of the incident. The airline is also implementing support measures and arranging alternative travel plans for affected passengers. Reports from European aviation website Airlive indicated that as the Boeing 787-9 took off, it may have collided with some equipment at the end of the runway, potentially damaging the landing gear or fuselage. After the incident, the aircraft climbed to an altitude of 9,000 feet and circled near Munich to burn off excess fuel, which was necessary due to the aircraft being loaded for a long-haul flight to Southeast Asia. This circling allowed the flight crew and ground staff to assess any potential damage to the landing gear, tires, or tail structure before attempting to land again.

After approximately two hours in the air, the aircraft landed, but the tires sustained damage, resulting in smoke upon landing. Vietnam Airlines operates direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to two major German airports: Munich and Frankfurt, using a fleet of wide-body Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 aircraft.
