Weather Forecast for August 18

According to the latest report from the meteorological agency, rain is expected in southern coastal areas and parts of the Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk regions until this morning. Additionally, thunderstorms with strong winds are anticipated across much of the country today and tomorrow.

In particular, heavy rainfall is expected in the southern coastal areas of Gyeongnam, raising concerns about landslides and infrastructure damage. The forecasted rainfall amounts are as follows: 5-40mm in Jeonnam's southern coast, 10-60mm in Busan and Gyeongnam's southern coast, and 10-60mm in Jeju Island.

Starting this afternoon, scattered showers are likely in northern Gyeonggi, Gangwon inland, and southern regions, with expected rainfall of 5-60mm in cities like Gwangju, Jeonnam, Busan, and Ulsan. Residents are advised to take precautions against strong winds and thunderstorms.

As a heatwave warning is in effect for parts of the Jeonnam southern coast, the perceived temperature in the capital area, Chungcheong, and southern regions may rise to around 33°C. People are urged to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.

This morning, dense fog has reduced visibility to less than 200 meters along the Jeonnam coast, and less than 1 kilometer in other inland areas. Drivers are advised to slow down and maintain safe distances to prevent accidents.

As the evening approaches, strong winds and high waves are expected off the southern coast of Jeju, making it essential to exercise caution in maritime activities.

Stay safe and follow local weather updates for any changes in conditions.
