On August 13, 2026, officials from the Đồng Nai Police Department announced the cause of the fire that occurred at Biên Hòa Market on August 5. The fire was traced back to an electrical short circuit within a kiosk on the ground floor, which ignited the insulation of electrical wires and subsequently spread to nearby merchandise, including bamboo and rattan products.
The fire broke out at approximately 8:12 PM, but emergency services were not notified until 8:20 PM. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after and managed to control the blaze by 8:30 PM, preventing further spread.
Colonel Trần Anh Sơn, Deputy Director of the Đồng Nai Police Department, praised the quick response of the firefighting teams and emphasized the need for a thorough review of fire prevention and response protocols. He noted that the delay in reporting the fire must be analyzed to identify both objective and subjective causes, ensuring that such delays do not occur in the future.
Furthermore, Colonel Sơn called for a detailed investigation into the responsibilities of individuals and organizations involved in the market's fire safety management.
