A significant fire incident occurred at Thị Nại Lagoon in Gia Lai on June 29, resulting in the destruction of more than ten fishing boats. The fire ignited around 12:30 PM from a fishing boat that was anchored near the lagoon, rapidly spreading to adjacent vessels.
Eyewitnesses reported that the flames spread quickly among the closely moored boats, fueled by the hot weather and strong winds. One witness, Hoàng Lợi, noted that the smoke was visible from a distance, indicating the severity of the fire. Despite efforts by local fishermen to extinguish the flames, they were unsuccessful due to the proximity of the boats and the presence of fuel on board.
The fire escalated dramatically, creating a thick plume of black smoke that engulfed the area. Local authorities and residents worked together to relocate nearby boats to prevent further spread of the fire and to implement firefighting measures. By approximately 3:30 PM, the fire was largely brought under control.
According to the local government of Quy Nhơn Đông, initial assessments indicate that over ten fishing boats were burned, primarily belonging to fishermen from Cát Tiến village. Authorities are currently assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the fire.
Thị Nại Lagoon is a significant brackish water area in the Quy Nhơn - Tuy Phước region, covering over 5,000 hectares and known for its rich aquatic resources that are vital to the livelihoods of local fishermen.
