A major fire broke out at Bien Hoa Market in Dong Nai province on the night of August 5, 2023. The fire reportedly started around 8:10 PM at a shop selling bamboo and rattan decor, located near the intersection of Nguyen Thi Hien, Vo Thanh, and Nguyen Hien Vuong streets in the Tran Bien ward.

Within minutes, the flames spread to adjacent stalls, engulfing the area in a fierce blaze. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with loud explosions and thick black smoke rising hundreds of meters into the air, alarming nearby residents.

Nguyen Duy Tan, Chairman of the Tran Bien People's Committee, stated that the stalls in the affected area primarily sold easily flammable items, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Local resident Anh Van recounted that he was watching television when he heard people shouting about the fire. Upon rushing outside, he saw thick smoke and flames, and despite efforts from nearby shop owners and residents to extinguish the fire with water hoses, their attempts were unsuccessful.

Firefighting units, including over ten specialized vehicles and equipment from the military, were dispatched to the scene to combat the blaze. Firefighters implemented multiple strategies to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby residential areas. Authorities also advised residents living close to the site to evacuate temporarily for safety.

As of now, the fire has been brought under control, but the extent of the damage has yet to be fully assessed. Initial reports indicate that approximately seven stalls were affected, including two on the ground floor and five above. The market, which spans over 8,100 square meters, is a significant commercial hub in Bien Hoa, housing around 300 stalls that offer a variety of goods, including food, clothing, and household items.

The incident has raised concerns about fire safety measures in such densely populated market areas, prompting calls for improved regulations and emergency response protocols.
