As the final day for virtual filtering in the 2026 university admissions process approaches, universities in Vietnam are gearing up to announce their admission scores. Starting from 5 PM on August 9, universities will begin entering their admission scores and results into the system, with some institutions potentially announcing their scores on the same day.

This year's admissions process has seen over 1.2 million candidates registered for the high school graduation exam, with more than 874,000 students applying for university and college admissions through the centralized system, accounting for over 70% of all candidates. This marks an increase of over 25,200 candidates compared to 2025. The total number of registered aspirations has reached nearly 7,180,900, averaging about 8.2 aspirations per candidate.

According to regulations, all candidates must register their aspirations on the Ministry of Education and Training's centralized system, ranked in order of priority, with the first aspiration being the highest. Last year, the number of virtual filtering rounds increased by four, totaling ten rounds, and the Ministry delayed the announcement of admission scores due to a higher number of candidates applying for university and college admissions. This was also the first year that colleges participated in the admissions process, eliminating early admissions and utilizing all admission methods in the first round.

Last year also saw several issues in university and college admissions, leading to confusion among institutions. For instance, some candidates who did not qualify for their first aspiration were not accepted by their second-choice institutions because they had already been admitted to their first choice. This resulted in candidates with scores above the admission threshold at risk of missing out on university placements due to system errors. There were also cases where candidates were unaware of why they were admitted, or where candidates with scores exceeding the threshold for multiple aspirations were reported as rejected across all aspirations. Additionally, some universities changed their admission conditions after announcing the scores, causing further complications for candidates.

The virtual filtering process is designed to eliminate candidates from the list of potential admissions at a university if they have qualified for a higher-priority aspiration at another institution. The national filtering process consists of six rounds, with the first round expected to run from August 5, and occurring twice daily until completion. The results of the final filtering round are expected to be returned to universities around 1:30 PM on August 9.
