Over 367,000 Students Opt Out of University Admissions in Vietnam
In Vietnam, more than 367,000 students have chosen not to register for university admissions this year,

On July 30, 2026, Vietnamese universities completed the data upload for candidates applying to their institutions through the Ministry of Education and Training's centralized admission system. The uploaded data includes detailed information about the total number of applicants, the overall number of admission preferences, and specific admission details for each program.
From this data, universities will review the information, calculate additional points, and prepare for the virtual filtering process. According to the Ministry's guidelines, from August 4 to August 9, educational institutions will conduct admissions and process applicants' preferences on the centralized system.
The virtual filtering process consists of six rounds, starting at 7 AM on August 4 and concluding in the afternoon of August 9. During this period, the Ministry will conduct admissions, upload the results of the processing, and return the results to the universities six times to finalize the outcomes.
This filtering process ensures that each candidate is only admitted to their highest preference. For instance, if a candidate applies for 15 preferences and qualifies for multiple programs, the system will automatically identify the highest priority preference to confirm the admission. Other preferences will be excluded from the selection, allowing more candidates the opportunity to be admitted. This mechanism helps universities create a final admission list that closely aligns with actual enrollment needs, minimizing the chances of over or under-enrollment.
Starting from 5 PM on August 9, universities will begin entering the admission scores and results into the system. From this point, they will start announcing the admission scores to candidates. By August 13, 2026, at the latest, all universities must complete the announcement of their admission scores.
After receiving their admission results, candidates should follow the university's instructions to complete the enrollment process as required. The deadline for online enrollment confirmation for 2026 is before 5 PM on August 21, 2026. After confirming their enrollment online, candidates must proceed with the in-person enrollment procedures as notified by their respective universities.
Candidates are advised to adhere to the stipulated deadlines. Confirming enrollment on time is crucial for educational institutions to finalize the official enrollment list for candidates wishing to study.
The Ministry of Education and Training emphasizes that universities should not require candidates to confirm their enrollment or complete the enrollment process before August 13 and should not end the confirmation or enrollment process before 5 PM on August 21.
From August 22, 2026, until December 2026, candidates interested in additional admission rounds can follow the enrollment information published on the educational institution's admission page. Candidates who have already been admitted and confirmed their enrollment are not eligible for additional admissions, unless permitted by the institution's head.
