Nearly 85 Universities Announce Admission Cut-Off Scores

On July 8, 2026, approximately 84 universities in Vietnam disclosed their admission cut-off scores for prospective students. The scores, which are crucial for ensuring quality in higher education, range from 15 to 25 points, with about a quarter of the institutions setting their minimum at 15 points, the lowest threshold mandated by the Ministry of Education.

Among the universities, prestigious institutions such as the University of Science and the University of Technology (both part of Vietnam National University, Hanoi) have set higher cut-off scores, requiring students to achieve between 22 to 25 points. To be competitive for admission, candidates typically need to score between 7 and over 8 points in each subject.

Conversely, 21 other universities have established a minimum score of 15 points, which translates to an average of 5 points per subject, excluding health and law-related fields. This score serves as a critical barrier for university admissions as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training, with many of these institutions being private universities.

The cut-off scores for 66 universities based on the results of the high school graduation exams for 2026 are as follows:

  • University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi: 19-25
  • University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi: 22 for Computer Science and Information Technology; 24 for other fields
  • University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi: 19
  • University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi: 19
  • University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Thai Nguyen University: 18-23

The Ministry of Education has set the deadline for candidates to register or adjust their university preferences until 5 PM on July 14. The cut-off scores for health, pedagogy, and law-related fields are expected to be announced by July 8. The anticipated university admission scores will be revealed after 5 PM on August 9.
