The extreme heat that has pushed temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius is finally easing in Vietnam, particularly in the western regions. However, the eastern coast is experiencing heavy rainfall and strong winds, causing disruptions and potential hazards.

According to weather forecasts, the intense heat in the western areas is expected to subside starting today, with temperatures in cities like Seoul predicted to drop to around 34 degrees Celsius. This shift comes after weeks of relentless heat, raising concerns about health and safety.

In contrast, the eastern coast, particularly in Gangneung, has been hit hard by torrential rains, with reports of rainfall reaching 80mm per hour. This stark difference in weather patterns highlights the extremes that can occur even within the same country, with one region suffering from heat while another faces flooding.

As the summer progresses, the number of days with extreme heat has already surpassed two weeks, and the number of tropical nights is at a record high. Experts warn that the heat may continue into September, raising concerns about heat-related illnesses, which have seen a threefold increase compared to previous years.

Additionally, the impact of Typhoon Dolphin is being felt in Jeju, where strong winds and high waves are causing further complications. Residents along the coast are advised to remain vigilant as the typhoon moves away from the region but still poses risks of severe weather.
