Vietnam is experiencing a significant heatwave, particularly in the southern regions, where temperatures are expected to approach 40 degrees Celsius. This extreme weather has prompted authorities to issue severe heat warnings across various areas.

As the rainy season comes to an end, the relentless heat is becoming a serious concern. In the past day, temperatures in places like Milyang and Yangsan reached 39.3 degrees Celsius, marking the highest recorded temperature of the year so far. Today, the situation is expected to worsen, with southern regions facing extreme heat conditions.

The heat warnings, classified as the highest level, are currently in effect for 14 cities and counties in the south, including Daegu. This extreme heat poses a threat not only to vulnerable populations but also to healthy individuals, as the high temperatures can be life-threatening.

In addition to the south, central regions are also experiencing heightened heat warnings. Most areas across the country, excluding the mountainous regions of Gangwon, are under heat advisories. For the foreseeable future, daytime temperatures in the interior regions are expected to feel like they are around 35 degrees Celsius or higher.

The combination of heat and humidity is leading to tropical nights, where nighttime temperatures do not drop below 25 degrees Celsius. As the week progresses, both the heatwave and tropical nights are expected to intensify.

The Korea Meteorological Administration warns that the extreme heat will persist due to the overlapping high-pressure systems in the upper and mid-levels of the atmosphere. They advise the public to limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day and to stay hydrated, even if not feeling thirsty.
