A severe heat wave is forecasted to peak in Northern Vietnam on June 24, with temperatures reaching as high

Vietnam is currently experiencing an intense heat wave, with forecasts indicating that temperatures will continue to rise significantly in the coming days. From June 23 to 24, areas from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri are expected to see temperatures reaching as high as 40 degrees Celsius. The National Center for Meteorological Forecasting reported that on June 22, regions from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang and eastern parts of Quang Ngai to Dak Lak already recorded extreme heat, with temperatures commonly ranging from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.
Specifically, Kỳ Anh in Ha Tinh recorded a high of 39.1 degrees Celsius, while Dong Ha in Quang Tri reached 40 degrees Celsius, and Tuy Hoa in Dak Lak hit 39.6 degrees Celsius. The forecast for June 23 indicates that the northern region, excluding Lai Chau and Dien Bien, will experience continued heat, with some areas facing severe heat conditions. Expected maximum temperatures are between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, with some locations exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.
On June 24, the heat will be concentrated in the mountainous and midland areas of northern Vietnam, again excluding Lai Chau and Dien Bien, with similar temperature ranges. The plains of northern Vietnam will also experience hot and severe heat conditions, likely lasting until June 25. The heat wave will continue to expand in the northern regions in the following days.
During June 23-24, the areas from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri will continue to experience severe and exceptionally severe heat, with temperatures commonly ranging from 37 to 39 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. From Hue to Da Nang and eastern parts of Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, the heat will persist, with maximum temperatures generally between 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological agency has warned that the ongoing heat wave, combined with low humidity, poses a risk of fires and explosions in residential areas due to increased electricity consumption. Prolonged exposure to such high temperatures can also lead to dehydration and exhaustion for those working outdoors.
