As students await the announcement of university admission scores for 2026, there is growing curiosity about whether there will be discrepancies in scores between different admission methods and subject combinations. This topic was discussed during an online consultation program titled "Special Insights on Admission Scores for 2026," organized by Thanh Nien newspaper on August 7.

During the consultation, Huynh Vu Chi, Deputy Director of the Admissions Consulting Center at the University of Economics and Finance in Ho Chi Minh City (UEF), noted that this year, the university has seen a significant number of applications for business, economics, and information technology programs. Additionally, despite having a minimum quality assurance threshold, the law program has also attracted a high number of applicants.

Vo Ngoc Nhon, Deputy Director of the Admissions Consulting Center at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), reported that HUTECH received 37,000 applications. The most sought-after fields include information technology and multimedia communications, with about 2,000 applications per field. Students are increasingly opting for new disciplines that meet societal demands, such as logistics and supply chain management, automotive engineering, business administration, and marketing. Notably, 2026 marks the first year that the university will offer a medical program, which has garnered considerable interest from applicants.

Based on the distribution of applications across different fields, Nhon predicts that the admission scores for popular fields such as information technology, automotive technology, multimedia communications, logistics, and supply chain management will be higher. Similarly, at UEF, Chi anticipates that this year's admission scores will not differ significantly from the base score of 15 points, except for certain high-demand fields like logistics and international business, which usually see a slight increase in admission scores.

The 2026 admission regulations state that the results from various admission methods will be converted to equivalent levels. This means there will likely be differences in scores; for example, a field with a score of 15 under the high school graduation exam method might require a score of 18 under the high school transcript method. Each program at HUTECH has 6-12 admission combinations, and the scores for these combinations are expected to be similar.

During the program, students raised concerns about whether they should enroll in a program they are not passionate about, due to incorrect priority choices. Chi advised that while it is common to feel regret over such decisions, students should remember that educational pathways are long. Current programs are designed to be interdisciplinary, allowing graduates to pursue various career opportunities. Therefore, students can still thrive in a field they did not initially prefer. If desired, they can register for a second major after one year in a field they truly love.

Nhon suggested another option for students is to decline admission and wait for supplementary admissions. However, he cautioned that there may be very few spots available, and the fields they prefer might not be open for supplementary admissions. Hence, careful consideration is essential.
