The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning regarding heavy rainfall expected in northern Vietnam from the afternoon of August 4. The forecast indicates that the rainfall will intensify, particularly in the northern and north-central regions.

According to the center, on August 3, light to moderate rain was recorded across northern provinces and Thanh Hoa, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours. Rainfall measurements from 7 AM to 8 PM on August 3 showed significant amounts, such as 127.2mm in Coc San (Lao Cai), 100.8mm in Xuan Giang 1 (Tuyen Quang), and 82.8mm in Binh Cang (Phu Tho).

Le Thi Hong Van, a meteorologist at the center, highlighted that the northern region is set to experience increased rainfall. From the afternoon of August 4 until the end of August 6, moderate to heavy rain is expected, with some areas potentially receiving over 300mm. The majority of rainfall is anticipated to occur during the evening and overnight hours.

Areas likely to experience heavy rainfall include Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Son La, Dien Bien, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An, with the possibility of rain affecting the capital city, Hanoi.

The forecast also warns of potential thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and flash floods in low-lying and urban areas. Residents in high-risk areas are advised to stay updated with meteorological reports and local government announcements. Those living near rivers, streams, or on slopes prone to landslides should be vigilant for unusual signs such as cracking soil, rolling stones, or rapidly rising water levels and be prepared to evacuate to safety.

The meteorological agency predicts that total rainfall in August for the northern region and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri will likely exceed the average levels of previous years by 10-30%. Other regions may see rainfall amounts close to the historical averages.

Widespread heavy rain is expected primarily in the northern region and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri, while the Central Highlands and southern regions will also experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoons and evenings.

Dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, whirlwinds, hail, and strong winds are likely to affect various regions, with a concentration in the northern area, from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri, the Central Highlands, and the southern part of the country.
