Vietnam to Connect VNeID with Electronic Identification Systems in ASEAN

Vietnam is set to enhance its digital infrastructure by connecting its electronic identification system, VNeID, with the electronic identification systems of Singapore and other ASEAN nations. This initiative was discussed in a recent meeting led by General Secretary and President To Lam, who emphasized the importance of digital transformation in the political system.

The meeting highlighted the progress made since the implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW, which aims to accelerate the development of science, technology, and digital transformation in Vietnam. Over the past year, significant strides have been made in improving the understanding and implementation of digital transformation across various sectors.

According to the report from the Central Steering Committee for Science and Technology, the digital transformation efforts have led to the establishment of important digital platforms and databases. These advancements have improved the efficiency of electronic document processing, online public services, and electronic identification, contributing to smoother operations within the political system.

Despite these positive developments, the meeting also addressed several challenges that need urgent attention. Key issues include the slow utilization of allocated resources for digital transformation, insufficient data sharing among agencies, and the need for clearer responsibilities in managing digital systems.

To address these challenges, the committee outlined six key tasks to be prioritized in the coming months. These tasks include resolving overdue assignments, enhancing data integration, and ensuring accountability among agencies involved in the digital transformation process.

As Vietnam moves forward with its digital agenda, the connection of VNeID with ASEAN countries is expected to facilitate greater collaboration and efficiency in service delivery across the region.
