On the morning of September 15, the People's Committee of Cam Lo district in Quang Tri province announced that they are collaborating with relevant authorities to investigate a case of suspected food poisoning linked to a newly opened banh mi shop. Initial reports indicated that by 9 AM, there were 42 individuals exhibiting symptoms of food poisoning, including 26 who were hospitalized for treatment at Cam Lo Regional General Hospital, while 16 others were being monitored at home. Among those affected were eight schoolchildren.

Symptoms reported included abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, and signs of dehydration, all occurring after consuming food from the same establishment. In response to the situation, Cam Lo Regional General Hospital mobilized staff across various departments to examine, classify, and treat the patients, while closely monitoring their health and preparing to address any severe cases.

Upon receiving the reports, local authorities immediately coordinated with health professionals to inspect the banh mi shop and collect food samples for further investigation. The establishment has been temporarily closed while the investigation is ongoing. Local health officials are also monitoring the health of individuals who consumed food from the shop, urging all patrons, including those without any unusual symptoms, to seek medical check-ups.

This incident raises concerns about food safety standards in the area, particularly as the popularity of banh mi continues to rise among both locals and tourists. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of ensuring that food establishments adhere to health regulations to prevent such occurrences in the future.
