On August 25, 2026, the An Khê Medical Center in Gia Lai province reported that 66 patients were admitted with symptoms including abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever, suspected to be related to eating bánh mì. The patients had purchased assorted bánh mì from a vendor named Bin Bin located at 1041 Quang Trung Street between 8 PM on August 23 and 5:30 PM on August 24.

By 7 PM on August 24, the patients began to show unusual symptoms, prompting them to seek medical attention at the An Khê Medical Center. The first patient was admitted at 5:27 PM on August 24. As of 10 AM on August 25, a total of 66 patients had been treated for these symptoms, with four individuals opting to transfer to Gia Lai General Hospital for further treatment. Most of the patients were alert and responsive, and they were under observation and receiving care.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspected food poisoning cases all involved the consumption of assorted bánh mì, which typically includes ingredients such as pâté, cold cuts, shredded pork, fresh herbs, cucumber, chili sauce, egg butter sauce, soy sauce, and braised pork. To aid in the investigation, health authorities collected and sealed 12 food samples including cucumber, fresh herbs, pâté, fried fish cake, shredded pork, dried chicken, egg butter sauce, chili sauce, pickled vegetables, braised pork, pork sausage, and cold cuts.

Authorities also collected a vomit sample from one patient for analysis to determine the cause of the poisoning. According to the owner of the Bin Bin vendor, the establishment typically sells around 200 bánh mì daily and operates from 6 AM to 9 PM. The An Khê People's Committee has formed an inspection team to evaluate the vendor and trace the source of the food ingredients. The authorities have ordered the Bin Bin vendor to temporarily cease production and sales of bánh mì until a formal conclusion is reached.
