VND6.5 trillion for upgrade of coastal road in Ba Ria-Vung Tau
HCMC – A coastal road connecting Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and Binh Thuan Province will be upgraded and

The construction of a new coastal road connecting Can Gio and Vung Tau is poised to transform travel in the region, cutting down the journey time from a lengthy 1.5 to 4 hours to just 10 minutes. This ambitious project, which is set to break ground on July 1, aims to provide a direct route across the Ganh Rai Bay.
The coastal road will span approximately 14.06 kilometers and feature 6 to 8 lanes. With an estimated investment of around 93 trillion VND, the project will be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Vingroup has proposed to take on the role of the main investor, with plans for completion by early 2029.
The project will begin at the reclaimed urban area of Can Gio and connect to the planned Sao Mai - Ben Dinh route in the former city of Vung Tau, thereby establishing a direct transportation corridor across the bay. Currently, the main road in the reclamation area is nearing completion, enhancing regional connectivity and aligning infrastructure with the new coastal road.
Travelers currently face a lengthy wait when using the ferry service, which takes 90 to 120 minutes due to delays. The alternative road route, which passes through Ho Chi Minh City and spans about 140 kilometers, takes over four hours. The new coastal road is expected to alleviate these issues significantly.
Notably, this project will be the first in Vietnam to combine a bridge with an underwater tunnel. The design includes two technical tunnels at either end, with green spaces, amenities, and parking facilities planned on the island in the middle of the bay. This will provide a resting point for travelers and visitors to enjoy the scenery.
The project will also require approximately 169.2 hectares of land, with an estimated land clearance cost of around 340 billion VND. The completion of this coastal road is anticipated to enhance regional connectivity, boost tourism, and improve logistics and port operations in the area.
