Transport Ministry weighs proposal for second int’l airport in Hanoi
HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has assigned its relevant agencies to look into a recent proposal by Hanoi
The Hanoi People's Committee has sent an official document to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport to report the proposal for the second airport planned in the General Plan for the development of the national airport system in the 2021-2030 period. With a vision to 2050, it should be an international airport. Although before that, in April this year, the Ministry of Transport (Transportation) had just submitted to the Government a proposal to plan this airport as a domestic port.
The Hanoi Capital Area has an expected population of about 21-23 million people by 2050, with a total area of about 24,314 square kilometers, basically similar to Ho Chi Minh City’s (with the population scale of 24-25 million people in an area of about 30,400 km2).
According to the Hanoi People's Committee, in the general plan for the development of the national airport system in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Ministry of Transport is submitting to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval the plan of two international airports for Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh), with a total capacity of about 150 million passengers/year.Source: VTVNews
