In the summer, the lotus ponds in Thai Binh bloom, forming colorful arrays, and attracting tourists to admire and take pictures.



Referring to the beautiful lotus ponds in Vietnam, many people will think of the lotus ponds of Dong Thap Muoi, Ninh Binh or the regal lotus species in Tinh Tam lagoon (Hue City). However, located about 110 km from Hanoi city, Thai Binh also has wide lotus ponds, many lotus species such as Van Dai lotus pond in Hung Ha district, An Vu lotus pond in Quynh Phu district, Vu Tay lotus pond in Kien district. One of the most famous and largest lotus ponds in Thai Binh is the Sen Van Dai Cooperative in Van Dai village, Chi Hoa commune, Hung Ha district, Thai Binh.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chien, Deputy Director of Sen Van Dai Cooperative, said that the new lotus pond was formed nearly three years ago, covering an area of ​​​​nearly 5 hectares surrounding the shrine of Princess Dieu Dung – a provincial historical and cultural relic.

The beginning of June to the end of July is the time when the number of tourists coming to the lotus pond to take photos is the most, especially every weekend. On June 18 alone, Van Dai Cooperative welcomed about 1,500 visitors. “This year, right from the beginning of summer, the number of visitors to the lagoon is much larger than last year,” said Ms. Chien.


In Van Dai lagoon, there are about 32 varieties of lotus, such as white royal lotus, red cypress lotus (pictured), white rose, Bi Ngan lotus, white Japanese lotus. In particular, there are rare varieties of lotus such as the thousand-petaled lotus and the thousand-petaled lotus. Besides, the lagoon also has about 20 varieties of water lilies.

The white lotus has white wings and yellow pistil, fragrant even when it is a new bud. The flower blooms only once, then shrivels, loses its petals, and then fades away. In addition to white, this lotus species is also yellow.

Ms. Chien said that at Van Dai HXT, each plot of land planted a lotus variety with different harvesting purposes. There are lotus varieties with flowers marinated in tea; lotus seeds are used to process lotus milk, lotus jam, nutritional powder; lotus take look; lotus root.

Coming to the cooperative, in addition to taking pictures, visitors can also experience lotus harvesting, learn how to plant lotus (photo), enjoy and buy products from lotus plants such as lotus, lotus root, lotus seeds, lotus-marinated tea, etc. salted lotus root.

Besides Van Dai cooperative, lotus ponds in An Le and An Vu communes in Quynh Phu district (Thai Binh) are also in full bloom. The owner of Dien Linh garden in An Le commune said that the lagoon has been open for 5 years, with an area of ​​​​about 2 hectares, mainly growing a variety of pink lotus to serve tourists to take photos.

From about mid-May, many tourists have come to Thai Binh lotus ponds to take pictures. Van Dai Cooperative and An Vu Lagoon do not sell tickets.

The right time to visit the lotus pond and take pictures is early in the morning. At this time, the sun is mild, the petals are still dew at night, giving off a fragrant aroma. Noon and afternoon, the sun is hot, the lotus will wilt.

Not only young people, visitors to take photos of lotus flowers include both children and the elderly. The costumes chosen by many people when photographing lotus flowers are Ao Dai, Ba Ba shirt or camisole worn by women in the past, and conical hats.

“The attraction of the lotus flower lies in the fact that although it is not sophisticated and beautiful, it seems elegant and noble,” said Mr. Nguyen Trong Cung (28 years old, Thai Binh), who took photos of the lotus pond.

Ms. Chien said that the lotus season in Thai Binh usually lasts from April to October of the lunar calendar every year. Near the end of the lotus season will begin the season of nuggets, the nuggets are wrapped in flowers, lotus leaves, lightly fragrant, a familiar gift of the people of the North every autumn.
