The road to conquer the ‘roof’ of Quang Tri

The nature on the top of Voi Mep is pristine, with many flowers blooming in spring.

As the highest mountain in Quang Tri, Elephant Mep is more than 1,700 m high, located in Huong Son commune, Huong Hoa district. This place is also known as the “roof” of the province. The top of the mountain is still wild and has not been exploited for tourism. Those who go to the top of the mountain must have local permission to ensure safety and comply with forest protection regulations.

To conquer Elephant Mep, the group has to cross Pa Thien. Starting early in the morning in Nguon Rao Pin village (Huong Son commune), the group took more than half a day to reach the campsite at the foot of Pa Thien mountain, more than 1,600 m high. Visitors can watch the following trees changing their leaves to red in the background of the blue sky.

The primeval forest is full of dense trees, covered with mist. The weather here changes rapidly and erratically, in one day can witness four seasons.

Along the way, there are stages and stops named by indigenous people according to their own characteristics. For example, the Four Legs slope is a section that requires visitors to use both feet and hands to cross, or Luk Lak rock is a rock that swings back and forth, big enough for three people to stand.

Thuy Hoai shared that this is the second time conquering Pa Thien – Voi Mep. Preparing for the trip, she exercises more in the gym to improve her health and endurance. “I am immersed in the majestic nature, can enjoy watching the streams and cool water”, Hoai confided.

The journey to discover Voi Mep peak requires at least three days and nights, with the help of many locals to carry food, tents… The temperature at night at the top of the mountain is quite low, even though it can be sunny during the day. warm sunshine.

At the top, the temperature is low, the wind is strong, so there are not many trees growing. The tree that grows the most in Pa Thien and Voi Mep is bamboo. Because the tree grows thickly, blocking the path, visitors must be careful, step by step to avoid falling.

Bamboo Sat is a species of tree-like bamboo, from knee to head high. Some local people go to the mountain to cut down this tree to make bamboo straws and sell it in many places.

The nature on the mountain is pristine, with many flowers blooming in spring. At an altitude of more than 1,600 m on Pa Thien mountain, visitors can easily see wheel digging, bell digging, rhododendron… in full bloom. In the photo is the blooming wheel peach blossom. This species is distributed from Pa Thien to the lower mountains in the Dakrong district.

Bell peach blossoms bloom on the way to the top of Voi Mep mountain. The temperature in Voi Mep is quite low, below 10 degrees Celsius, so it is suitable for cold species.

Standing on the big rocks on Pa Thien mountain, you can look out over a large area around.

“This season, the top of Voi Mep and Pa Thien mountains have bell peach flowers, wheel peaches, azaleas, orchids, maples anemones, red leaves… are brilliantly beautiful, bringing a sense of peace, overflowing with fresh energy. proud, happy to experience this meaningful trip”, Thuy Hoai shared about three days conquering Elephant Mep.
