Hoi An people clean up mud and garbage after floods

QUANG NAM – On the afternoon of October 18, the flood water receded, people and environmental workers in Hoi An city urgently cleaned up young mud and garbage in the house and on the street.

Heavy rain and upstream hydropower plants released floods from the morning of October 17, causing water to rise and flood the streets along the Hoai River by 20 to 50 cm.

At An Hoi bridge, crossing the Hoai River, nearly 20 tons of waste such as firewood, foam boxes, plastic bags, etc. drifted to the water surface with an area of more than 1,000 m2, residing upstream of the bridge.

Today (October 18), environmental workers mobilized excavators to bring them downstream to clear the flow.

The road around Cau Pagoda is covered with red-yellow young mud, covered with a layer of 10 cm thick. This time Hoi An is affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, so the restaurant is closed, few tourists visit.

After the water receded, Hoi An Public Works Joint Stock Company mobilized 40 workers to clean up the young mud.

After scraping off the young mud, environmental workers used two water spray trucks and three large-capacity pumps to suck water from the Hoai River to wash the streets.

A worker uses a pump to clean the young mud in front of the Covered Bridge.

An employee of a shop on Bach Dang street cleans up after the water recedes. “The water flooded about 30cm in a night, leaving a layer of young mud 2cm thick,” the shop owner said.

A street at Chua Cau before and after being cleaned up. This afternoon (October 18), Hoi An did not rain, the flood water receded, leaving only Bach Dang street flooded with 30 cm.

Due to the influence of cold air and the tropical convergence band with an axis passing through the Central region, from the evening of October 15 to the morning of October 17, Quang Nam recorded a common rainfall of 150-200 mm, with over 377 mm in some places. Follow vnexpress
