Deputy Prime Minister Calls for Review of Large Educational Institutions

On October 9, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau chaired a meeting at the Government headquarters to discuss the progress of restructuring educational institutions in Vietnam. The focus was on the management of large-scale schools and the establishment of multi-level educational facilities in border areas.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, all 34 provinces have completed their plans for restructuring educational institutions, resulting in a reduction of 18,975 public schools, which is approximately 50.6%. Over 28,000 administrative staff have been reassigned to teaching roles.

However, challenges remain, particularly in managing large institutions with multiple campuses and wide geographical areas. These complexities have significantly increased the management workload and may impact the quality of education and student rights.

In conclusion, the Deputy Prime Minister instructed local governments to take direct responsibility for the results of the restructuring and operation of educational institutions within their jurisdictions. He emphasized the need to review all large educational institutions and make timely adjustments to those exceeding manageable capacities, ensuring that they do not compromise quality or safety for students. This review must be completed by the end of October 2026.

The Ministry of Education and Training will serve as the main body to gather and address the difficulties faced by localities during the restructuring process. They are also tasked with refining regulations regarding the organization and management of educational institutions post-restructuring, ensuring clear delineation of responsibilities and authority.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to propose suitable policies for management staff and personnel at large educational institutions. The Ministry of Finance will provide guidance on financial matters arising from the restructuring to ensure stable and continuous operation of educational institutions.

Regarding the construction and operation of multi-level boarding schools in border areas, the Deputy Prime Minister urged local governments to finalize any outstanding construction phases and ensure safety during the ongoing educational activities.
