Prince Harry Earns $100,000 by Sharing Mental Health Struggles

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has sparked controversy by earning approximately $100,000 for sharing his experiences with depression and the tragic loss of his mother in a paid online course. According to a report from Daily Mail on October 9, Prince Harry received compensation for his participation in the course titled "Reframing Pain: Rebuilding Resilience After Loss" on the MasterClass platform.

MasterClass, valued at $2.75 billion, typically pays its instructors a minimum upfront fee of $100,000, along with 30% of revenue from new subscriptions. To access Harry's 99-minute lecture, users must pay a monthly fee ranging from £10 to £19.

During his speech, the 42-year-old prince opened up about his mental health struggles for the first time, revealing that living under the intense scrutiny of the British Royal Family had led him to experience prolonged panic attacks. He described how the pressure to wear formal attire at official events made him feel suffocated. "People think I received the best help in the world because I am a prince. But I still had to live with pain without knowing where to hide those feelings," Harry shared, reflecting on the psychological burden he carried for 15 to 20 years.

Notably, the Duke of Sussex admitted to falling into a state of depression and feeling "useless" shortly after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties (commonly referred to as 'Megxit') to live in Canada. He explained that he experienced a sudden drop in adrenaline after leaving the stressful environment in the UK: "I fell into depression for about two weeks and felt completely helpless without the thrill of stress stimulating my brain."

Harry also discussed the tragedy of losing his mother, Princess Diana, at the age of 12, stating that he could not cry for nearly two decades because he believed suppressing emotions was a sign of strength. "I held back because I felt guilty if I were happy without my mother," he said. The turning point came when he sought therapy. Following the therapist's advice, Harry used a familiar scent from his late mother to unlock repressed memories, which helped him reconnect with her laughter and voice.

Additionally, the prince drew attention by publicly supporting the use of psychedelics in conjunction with traditional therapy, asserting that this approach is becoming a trend for alleviating deep psychological trauma. To maintain balance in his current life, Harry has established a "10-day rule"—ensuring he does not spend more than 10 consecutive days away from his wife and two children.

This lecture aired amid Meghan's recent public appearance in London after four years, where she had tea with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai. Harry's representatives confirmed that he did receive payment from MasterClass but declined to comment on the specific amount, emphasizing that he is sharing from the heart in hopes of helping others facing similar challenges.
