Lai Châu province is intensifying efforts to expedite the construction of the Hoang Lien road tunnel, which is a key infrastructure project designed to improve connectivity in the region. The tunnel is expected to be completed by 2027, providing a vital link between Lai Châu and Lào Cai.

On September 25, a delegation led by Lê Minh Ngân, the Secretary of the Lai Châu Provincial Party Committee, conducted an inspection of the project’s progress. The Hoang Lien tunnel project, with a total investment of approximately 3.3 trillion VND, spans about 8.8 kilometers, including a main tunnel of 2.63 kilometers and a secondary tunnel of 2.65 kilometers. The project features a dual-lane design and is constructed with durable reinforced concrete.

Once completed, the tunnel will replace the winding mountain roads that are often affected by complex terrain, landslides, and adverse weather conditions. This will significantly enhance transportation efficiency between the two provinces.

As of now, the land clearance process in Lai Châu has shown substantial progress, with 414,188.4 square meters of land acquired, achieving 100% of the approved area for clearance. Additionally, 15.54 hectares of land in Lào Cai has been cleared to facilitate the construction of access roads and other related works.

To ensure the project stays on schedule, the provincial government has mandated that all relevant departments closely monitor the construction sites and address any emerging issues promptly. The focus is on maintaining a steady workflow and ensuring that no minor obstacles impede overall progress.

In line with the directives from Lê Minh Ngân, the provincial government has assigned officials to oversee the project continuously and coordinate with Lào Cai province to resolve any overlapping issues with other projects in the Sa Pa area. The goal is to ensure timely delivery of all necessary construction sites and technical approvals.

Contractors are being urged to mobilize sufficient manpower and equipment to accelerate the construction process, especially for the tunnel sections. The project aims to enhance trade, transport, tourism, and socio-economic development in the Northwest region of Vietnam.

With the land cleared in Lai Châu and ongoing efforts in Lào Cai, the provincial leadership is committed to overcoming any challenges that may arise, ensuring that the Hoang Lien tunnel project progresses smoothly toward its completion.
