Vietnam's football scene is gaining attention as it secures a spot in the Top 10 of Asia for accumulated club points in the 2026/27 season. With a total of 3,133 points, Vietnam currently ranks 10th in Asia and leads Southeast Asia, surpassing familiar competitors such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore.

This notable achievement is largely attributed to the performances of two clubs competing in Asian club tournaments: Hanoi Police FC and Viettel FC. These teams are crucial in accumulating points for Vietnamese football on the international stage this season. In the AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE), Hanoi Police FC experienced a challenging start, suffering a 1-4 defeat against Gamba Osaka from Japan, placing them temporarily at 15th in the ranking. However, they managed to earn 3,000 points by qualifying for the playoffs after defeating Adelaide United from Australia.

Despite the tough start, the participation of Hanoi Police FC in Asia's most prestigious club competitions holds significant importance for Vietnamese football. They have several matches ahead to continue accumulating points and improving their standings. Meanwhile, Viettel FC also began their campaign in the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2), where they drew 1-1 against Melbourne Victory from Australia, thanks to a goal from Ribamar in the 62nd minute. This result places Viettel FC third in Group E after the first round of matches.

According to the points accumulation system in Asian football, results from regional competitions directly contribute to the overall performance of each footballing nation. Therefore, every win or draw by Hanoi Police FC and Viettel FC can add valuable points for Vietnam.

Currently, Vietnam's impressive ranking puts them ahead of several Southeast Asian rivals, including Thailand and Malaysia, who are typically in close competition with Vietnam for regional dominance. However, this 10th place position in Asia is only temporary, as the season still has a long way to go. Hanoi Police FC and Viettel FC will face numerous strong opponents in continental competitions, and maintaining positive results is essential for Vietnam to secure and potentially improve their current standing.
