The Match Day event, held on September 9 at Hanoi Medical University, showcased the achievements of numerous candidates from various medical schools. This year, many students from institutions other than Hanoi Medical University made impressive strides, securing top ranks in the residency selection process.

More than 780 candidates participated in the rigorous residency exam, but only 440 were accepted into the program. The exam covered a wide range of clinical subjects, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, and foundational medical sciences such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Pharmacology, Microbiology, and Histology.

Notably, Tạ Tiến Tùng, a student from the Thanh Hóa branch of Hanoi Medical University, ranked second and chose Obstetrics and Gynecology as his specialty. His achievement was particularly remarkable as it highlighted the potential of branch campuses in the competitive medical landscape.

Another standout was Vũ Hồng Đức, a graduate from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, who scored 24.75 out of 30 points, placing fourth overall among more than 1,000 candidates. His selection of Internal Medicine was met with applause, as it is considered one of the more challenging specialties.

This year's Match Day also marked a significant milestone for the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, as it had its first candidate in the top four of the residency selection at Hanoi Medical University. The university had seven students accepted into the program, with Trần Minh Dũng, the top graduate, ranking 38th and selecting Internal Medicine.

Vũ Thị Huyền Trang made history as the highest-ranking candidate from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Thái Nguyên, placing 15th overall. Other notable candidates included Đào Công Minh and Nguyễn Thị Hằng from Thái Bình University of Medicine and Pharmacy, who ranked 24th and 26th respectively, both choosing Anesthesia and Resuscitation as their specialties.

Hanoi Medical University, established in 1974, is the oldest medical training institution in Vietnam and is the only university that organizes Match Day, allowing students to select their specialties based on their exam rankings. This year, the Obstetrics and Gynecology specialty was particularly sought after, with half of the top 20 candidates opting for this field.
