On September 9, 2023, Hanoi Medical University will celebrate Match Day 2026 for its 51st cohort of residents, marking a significant milestone in their medical careers. This event is not just about selecting a specialty; it symbolizes the beginning of three years of rigorous training and personal growth for future specialists.

Dean Nguyen Huu Tu addressed the new residents, stating, "Regardless of the specialty you choose in your residency training, each field holds its unique value and offers opportunities for success if you are diligent, passionate, and persistent in your pursuit." He encouraged the new doctors to prepare themselves mentally and physically for the challenging yet invaluable three years ahead.

During the graduation ceremony for the class of 2026 held on August 27, Dean Tu highlighted the unique circumstances faced by this cohort, as they entered the university during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, he noted that this experience has provided them with a historical perspective on the difficulties faced by society and particularly the healthcare sector.

He remarked, "You have endured a rigorous examination process, overcoming numerous challenges and hardships to reach this point of success." However, he also reminded the new graduates that receiving their diploma does not immediately qualify them to practice medicine. The residency program will continue to prepare them for competency assessments necessary for obtaining their medical licenses.

For those who have been accepted into the residency program, Dean Tu emphasized that this is a valuable opportunity for advanced training. He reassured those who were not accepted or chose a different path that their journey may be longer, but it does not diminish their chances of success. "The paths may differ, but the ultimate goal remains the same: to become capable, responsible, and beneficial healthcare professionals," he stated.

This year, the university has 358 residency positions available across 30 specialties, with internal medicine having the highest allocation of 50 spots. Other specialties include diagnostic imaging with 30 spots, dermatology with 22, and various others with 20 spots each. Obstetrics and gynecology, a popular choice among candidates, has 15 positions available. The residency program is open not only to Hanoi Medical University graduates but also to physicians from other institutions.
