Bùi Như Lai, known for his significant contributions to the Vietnamese theater and film industry, has been appointed as the Dean of Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema. This appointment was announced during a conference where the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism appointed new leaders for various higher education institutions.
Born in 1979, Bùi Như Lai has a rich background in performing arts, having worked at the Youth Theater and participated in numerous acclaimed productions. Since 2003, he has both acted in and directed many well-known plays, including "Rebirth," "Oedipus Rex," "To the Other Shore," "Through Stormy Days," "Don't Wait Until Tomorrow," and "Be Yourself." His dedication to the arts was recognized in 2019 when he received the title of Outstanding Artist and the Third Class Labor Medal.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Bùi Như Lai holds a PhD in Art Studies and has spent many years teaching at the Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema. He has gained popularity among television audiences through his roles in hit series such as "Under the Shade of Happiness" and "My Father, the One Who Remains." His performance in the latter, where he shared a compelling on-screen chemistry with actress Lương Thu Trang, has been particularly well-received.
Bùi Như Lai has also collaborated with fellow artist Thái Sơn, creating memorable moments in both "My Father, the One Who Remains" and "Under the Shade of Happiness." Despite his busy schedule with academic responsibilities and theater management, he has expressed contentment with his current role, emphasizing that being an artist is about creating meaningful stories and characters.
In a recent interview, he acknowledged that his limited appearances in films might affect his fame but remains happy with his contributions to the arts and education. Bùi Như Lai's recent directorial work includes the 2025 edition of the popular theatrical performance "Táo Quân." His multifaceted career continues to inspire many in the Vietnamese entertainment landscape.
