Ministry of Public Security Proposes Direct Admission Criteria for Police Schools

The Ministry of Public Security has recently sought opinions to finalize a draft circular regarding enrollment regulations in the People's Public Security sector. According to the draft, admissions must align with current state regulations on education and training, ensuring that the recruitment meets the operational and developmental needs of the police force.

The Ministry has proposed six groups of candidates who would qualify for direct university admission for new recruits graduating from high school, as detailed in the annex of the draft circular.

Proposed Admission Groups

  • First Group: Candidates who achieve first, second, or third prizes in national or international high school student competitions organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, History, and English will be eligible for direct admission into the fields of Security and Police Operations.
  • Second Group: Candidates who win similar prizes in the same competitions for subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Literature, History, Geography, and English can be directly admitted to the Political and State Administration field.
  • Third Group: Those who secure top prizes in national competitions in English will be eligible for direct admission into the English Language program.
  • Fourth Group: Candidates achieving top honors in Chinese language competitions can be directly admitted into the Chinese Language program.
  • Fifth Group: Candidates winning prizes in national competitions in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry can apply directly to various fields including Fire Prevention, Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Logistics for the People's Public Security, Police Engineering, Medical Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, and High-Tech Crime Prevention.
  • Sixth Group: Candidates who excel in national or international science and engineering competitions can also be directly admitted to the same fields as mentioned in the fifth group.

As per the draft, candidates must register for admission at the local police department where they reside, unless specified otherwise by the training institution. The drafting agency emphasizes that police training institutions will determine the admission methods for each training level, type of training, and must clearly outline evaluation criteria, admission processes, and conditions for successful candidates.

In 2026, the Ministry of Public Security has allocated 2,070 admission quotas across eight police academies and schools. These quotas are specifically distributed according to each institution, region, training field, and admission method. The admission scores for the eight police schools this year ranged from 17.14 to 24.42 points, with some institutions requiring scores above 24 points, such as the Academy of Security, the Academy of Police, the International Academy, and the Academy of Fire Prevention and Rescue. The lowest score, 17.14 points, was for male candidates applying for the Medical Science program at the Academy of Security Engineering and Technology, which collaborates with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
