Owner Arrested After Fire Claims Three Lives in Hanoi

A devastating fire that broke out at a wood workshop in Hanoi has led to the tragic deaths of three people. The incident occurred on August 19, 2026, at approximately 10:20 AM, prompting a swift response from the Hanoi Fire Department, which dispatched eight fire trucks and numerous personnel to the scene.

The fire originated at the workshop of the company, which specializes in producing motorcycle parts, and quickly escalated due to the presence of combustible materials such as wood and plastic. Within ten minutes of receiving the emergency call, firefighters arrived, but the blaze had already spread significantly, creating hazardous smoke conditions.

By 12:05 PM, the fire was finally extinguished, but not before it caused extensive damage to the facility, which spans around 700 square meters. In addition to the three fatalities, two individuals sustained injuries as a result of the fire.

In the aftermath, authorities have arrested Bùi Hữu Hảo, the 41-year-old owner of the workshop, for his failure to comply with fire safety regulations. The workshop had previously been ordered to cease operations due to similar violations but had not rectified the issues. The investigation revealed that the workshop lacked proper fire safety registration and certification, which are mandatory under Vietnamese law.

The incident has raised serious concerns regarding fire safety compliance in industrial areas, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future. The local government and fire safety officials are now reviewing safety protocols across similar facilities to ensure the protection of workers and the surrounding community.
