In a recent development in Dong Nai, two school principals and five vice principals have chosen to return to teaching roles after a major restructuring of public educational institutions. This decision aligns with the city's plan to reduce its number of public education facilities significantly, cutting down 453 out of a total of 1,123 institutions, which represents a reduction of more than 40%.
The restructuring plan, approved by the Dong Nai People's Committee, aims to streamline the network of public educational institutions, including kindergartens, primary schools, and vocational training centers. As part of this initiative, many localities have been tasked with consolidating their schools to improve efficiency and resource allocation.
Among those opting to return to teaching is Bui Thi Hien, a 56-year-old former principal of Tan Thanh Primary School. With 36 years of experience in education, including 25 years in management, she expressed her desire to step down to allow younger staff to contribute and develop their skills. "I have been in management for many years, and I feel it is time to allow the younger generation to take on leadership roles," Hien stated.
Similarly, Nguyen Thi May, the former principal of Tien Thanh Primary School, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the pressures of management roles and her commitment to ensuring a healthy work-life balance while providing opportunities for younger educators. Both women received flowers and recognition from local leaders for their decision to return to the classroom.
Vu Van Muoi, the Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council in Dong Xoai, praised the voluntary decisions of these educational leaders. He noted that their willingness to return to teaching not only facilitates the restructuring process but also enhances the quality of education by bringing experienced educators back into the classroom.
The restructuring plan has seen varying degrees of implementation across different localities, with some areas proposing reductions of over 50% in their educational facilities. For instance, Binh Tan Commune plans to cut its number of schools from 11 to just three, a reduction of 72.73%. This significant decrease in public educational institutions is part of a broader strategy to optimize educational resources and management in Dong Nai.
As the restructuring progresses, the local education department continues to work closely with communities to ensure that the changes meet the needs of students and educators alike, while also maintaining a focus on enhancing the overall quality of education in the region.
