Gold Prices Drop Significantly Today, August 19

Today, August 19, gold prices in Vietnam have experienced a notable decrease, with SJC gold dropping by 2.1 million VND per tael. As of 8:55 AM, the price for SJC gold was listed at 139.7 to 142.7 million VND per tael for buying and selling, reflecting a reduction of 2.1 million VND in both buying and selling prices. The buying-sell spread remains at 3 million VND per tael.

Similarly, DOJI also reported SJC gold prices at the same range of 139.7 to 142.7 million VND per tael, while Bao Tin Minh Chau listed it at 140.2 to 144.1 million VND per tael, marking a decrease of 1.6 million VND.

In terms of 9999 gold rings, Phu Quy Group reported prices at 139.7 to 142.7 million VND, with a drop of 2.1 million VND. DOJI's prices were slightly lower at 140.5 to 144.5 million VND, down by 1.1 million VND, while Bao Tin Minh Chau's prices were at 140.2 to 144.1 million VND, also reflecting a decline of 1.6 million VND.

On the global stage, the price of gold was around 4,353.1 USD per ounce, down 47.6 USD. The global gold market is currently under pressure due to high bond yields, particularly from the U.S. Treasury, which remains elevated, impacting the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding gold.

Despite the pressures, a weaker U.S. dollar and recent disappointing economic data from the U.S. are providing some support for gold prices. Investors are closely monitoring upcoming economic indicators and the Federal Reserve's policy direction, especially in light of the recent weak retail sales and cooling inflation.

Geopolitical factors, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, continue to pose risks, keeping oil prices high, which could further influence inflation concerns and bond yields. Thus, gold prices are expected to remain in a tug-of-war between safe-haven demand and high yield pressures in the short term.

Investors are advised to consider their financial capacity, personal goals, and associated risks before making any decisions regarding gold purchases or sales.
