Billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao has made a significant move by increasing her investment in Galaxy Pay, a digital payment platform, to 300 billion VND, which is six times the previous amount. This strategic decision was approved by the board of directors of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company, which owns Galaxy Pay, on August 13, 2026, and announced the following day.

The additional capital will be utilized to invest in the Starlink satellite internet system, enhancing the operational capabilities of Vietjet Airlines. This investment comes after Vietjet signed a contract with Starlink Services Vietnam on May 20, 2026, to provide in-flight internet services.

Starlink is a satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, a company founded by billionaire Elon Musk. In February 2026, Starlink Services Vietnam received a license to offer telecommunications services with network infrastructure in Vietnam. Initially, the company plans to deploy four gateway stations and support up to 600,000 terminal devices, according to reports from the Vietnamese government.

While Vietjet has not disclosed the number of aircraft that will be equipped with Starlink or when the service will be launched, the investment in Galaxy Pay is expected to strengthen the airline's digital payment capabilities. Galaxy Pay, established in July 2020, initially had a charter capital of 50 billion VND and was granted a license by the State Bank of Vietnam to provide intermediary payment services.

As of August 2021, Galaxy Pay was authorized to operate electronic payment gateways, support collection and disbursement services, and provide e-wallet services. The brand was rebranded to SkyPay on January 1, 2026, without affecting user accounts, balances, or features.

SkyPay operates as an independent application and is integrated into the Vietjet Air website, mobile app, and the SkyJoy loyalty program. It facilitates money transfers, bill payments, and the purchase of Vietjet flight tickets using QR codes.
