A significant discovery was made at the Sơn Viên War Cemetery in Nông Sơn, Da Nang, where a woman's photo was found inside a wallet during the excavation of a war martyr's grave. The wallet, along with a stamp featuring the national flag, was uncovered as authorities worked to gather information for identifying the soldier's name.

On August 13, Lieutenant Colonel Lê Anh Việt, deputy political officer of the Nông Sơn Military Command, shared with reporters that the excavation was part of a broader initiative to identify fallen soldiers. The specific grave, numbered 32 in row B3, lot 2, has been assigned the identification code 4808400091.

After consulting with higher authorities, the team decided to leave the wallet in the grave for further investigation. As of July 27, nearly 5,000 graves have been opened in Da Nang, yielding over 2,300 samples, which is a 46.33% success rate. Among these, 891 samples have been handed over to the Forensic Institute for DNA testing.

The city of Da Nang aims to locate and repatriate 390 remains of soldiers by July 27, 2027, and to complete the collection of samples from unidentified remains by 2026. The municipal government has urged various departments and localities to intensify their efforts in the 500-day campaign, enhancing cooperation among military, police, health, and local government forces in the search and repatriation of soldiers' remains.

Recently, the Da Nang Military Command has effectively maintained the operations of specialized forces, receiving and processing over 500 reports and conducting more than 100 surveys, thereby identifying 320 locations suspected of containing soldier remains that require verification.
